Early in his time in the West, Trungpa gave up his monastic robes and adopted western dress and mores, in order, he said, to undercut the temptation of students becoming distracted by exotic cultures and dress, and by their preconceptions of how a guru should behave. He drank, smoked, slept with students, and often kept students waiting for hours before giving teachings. Much of his behavior was deliberately provocative and sparked controversies that continue to this day. In one account, he ordered students to give up smoking marijuana and confine themselves to alcohol, claiming that the smoking was not of benefit to the spiritual progress of his students. Students were often angered, unnerved and intimidated by him, but remained fiercely loyal, committed, and devoted.

Nice eh? More to come:

“Poet Kenneth Rexroth’s comment was that “Trungpa has unquestionably done more harm to Buddhism in the United States than any man living.” (Clark 1980, back cover)

Despite — or perhaps because of — his unconventional methods, which are often described in terms of the Tibetan tradition of crazy wisdom, or teaching that confounds social conventions, Trungpa is widely recognized as a preeminent teacher of Tibetan Buddhism in the West. Rick Fields, historian of American Buddhism and long-time student of Trungpa ([2]), said “He caused more trouble and did more good than anybody I’ve ever known” ([3]).”

“Many in Trungpa’s community (sangha) felt angry and betrayed when they learned in December 1988 that Ösel Tendzin had contracted HIV and continued to have unprotected sex with his students, without informing them, and transmitted it to a student through oral sex, resulting in the subsequent death from AIDS of the young man and his girlfriend. There was also concern that some others close to Tendzin also knew that Tendzin was HIV positive and sexually active, and had kept silent. Tendzin admitted that he was responsible and said that Chögyam Trungpa had told him to keep his HIV a secret and that his tantric practice would prevent him passing the HIV infection onto his students.”.

“Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, after the Tendzin scandal, insisted to Vajradhatu students that Trungpa had given them authentic dharma, and they should continue in it exactly as he had prescribed (Butterfield, 1994;)”.

“In the case of my student Steven Seagal, I initiated the decision to recognize him as a tulku based on my own feelings about him. Neither I nor any of my monasteries have received or sought any sort of substantial donation from him. What is important to me are the qualities I have seen in my student. For this reason I feel confident that recognizing him as a tulku will be of benefit to others as well as to the Buddha dharma.”. Shut the fuck up, with all the bad karma that can possibly be! SHUT THE FUCK UP! Admit it you did it for money!

Si totusi, auzim tot timpul povesti despre asemenea acte si in crestinism.
